The lodge has open fire places in the lounge and dining room. These come in handy as the Virunga area does get quite cold in the evening and nights given the high altitude.

Virunga Lodge is for gorilla trekking clients conveniently situated about 30 min from the Volcanoes National Park headquarters where briefing takes place and gorilla trekkers assigned into gorilla family groups before they proceed to the gorilla trekking trailheads at the base of the mountains. Virunga Lodge is only  about 20 km off the Ruhengeri to Cyanika border crossing road.
Virunga lodge offers one of the very few luxury accommodation options in Volcanoes National Park. However gorilla trekking clients are advised to anticipate an early wake up of about 5am in order to get to the park headquarters by 7am for pre gorilla trekking briefing. Departure from Virunga Lodge is usually by 6am. Guests are advised to arrange their own private 4x4 transportation to get them from the lodge to the park and onward to the base of the mountains to track the gorillas.

Room Rates; 

Low season rates at Virunga Lodge are only applicable on bookings from 15^th October to 15^th December and 1^st March to 31^st May. Children of 12 years and under staying in the same room as parents pay 50%. Children under 2 years stay free.

The Virunga Lodge tariffs are all-inclusive and in addition to accommodation and meals include: unlimited consumption of alcoholic and soft drinks; laundry services;. A single complimentary massage is also offered.

Sabyinyo Silverback lodge Rwanda is only 15 minutes away from the gorilla trekking park headquarters of Volcanoes National Park PNV in Ruhengeri Rwanda . It is at the park headquarters that gorilla trekkers are briefed about gorilla trekking etiquette and divided into groups of 8 each before proceeding to the gorilla trekking trailheads in search of the gorilla families allocated to them for trekking.

All the cottages and suites at Silverback Lodge Rwanda are built from stone and local Rwandan terracotta tile roofs. Each of the cottages and suites feature massive open plan sitting areas, fireplaces, modern en-suite bathrooms finished with Venetian plaster, a dressing room and a sheltered private veranda for your private relaxation and unwinding while staying at the lodge.

The family suite at Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge has a 2nd bedroom with stylish en-suite bathroom. A bit of history:
Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge is a luxury lodge that was built and operated by Governors Camp of the famous Gorvernors' Camp Kenya brand. Silverback Lodge is owned by SACOLA a Community Trust that was set up to collect income from the lodge, and to use same to drive socio-economic development and conservation initiatives of the mountain gorillas and their habitat environs in the Kinigi area, which is in close proximity Volcanoes National Park Rwanda-PNV.

The socio-economic activities funded by Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge to date include

• Setting up of vegetable gardens for purposes of a community farming project.
• The reconstruction of a local primary school for 1600 pupils including construction of 10 classrooms.
• A contribution to a rural electrification project
• Construction and maintenance of local roads
• Building of homes for locals affected by genocide
• Setting up of initiatives that promote local artcrafts and other products.
• Building of a Community Cultural Centre
• Building of a small amphitheatre
• Purchase of water tanks and water collection points for use by the local communities.
• Repairs to the perimeter wall along Volcanoes National park’s to protect farmers' crops from buffalos.
• Launching of "a family a cow project" which offers cows to needy people in the locality.
• The building of 2 villages designed to house 126 formerly needy farmers in the surrounding Volcanoes National Park PNV Rwanda areas. The model village offers houses, water tanks and plots of land to people living close to the edge of the national .
• The setting up of carpentry and other income generating businesses for the local community.
• In addition SACOLA through income generated by Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge contributes to Gishwati Forest wildlife conservation wildlife conservation project.
• Gishwati Forest is located 50km from PNV Rwanda in Gishwati Forest. Sabyiny Silverback Lodge have assisted with establishment of 2 hiking trails through Gishwati.
• The hiking trails have immensely added to Gishwati Forest becoming an eco tourism destination in Rwanda. The lodge also provided financial support towards the habituation of a group of Chimpanzees in Gishwati forest. Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge has provided support towards conservation of wildlife in Buhanga Forest which is a small forest situated in the Musanze area.

Mountain Gorilla View Lodge-Ruhengeri PNV.

Mountain gorilla view lodge is sometimes referred to as Gorilla Mountain View Lodge. This is a beautiful lodge located in Rwanda gorilla trekking country in Volcanoes National Park PNV. It is our preferred mid-range accommodation option for gorilla trekking clients with a reasonable budget and who appreciate value for money accommodation without having to break the bank and pay Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge  or Volcanoes Virunga Lodge prices.

We have over the years been booking clients into Mountain Gorilla View Lodge and have received very satisfactory reviews, with the exception of one consistent concern  of the lodge feeling a little cold especially in the evenings and nights. To the credit of the managers of Mountain Gorilla View lodge, hot water bottles are provided to guests, and each of the cottages at the lodge has a wood fire in the room, for heating up the rooms should guests prefer.

Mountain gorilla view lodge has 20 cottages all with beautifully decorated interiors. In addition the lodge offers bungalows as an accommodation option. Each of the cottages and bungalows is fitted with an en-suite bathroom and shower with hot water. These come in handy upon your return to the lodge from your gorilla trekking expedition.

The lodge also features a restaurant and bar which serves most international wines and spirits. Local beers are served too. The meals are continental and local Rwanda cuisines. The Mountain Gorilla View Lodge room rates are on full board basis, you thus do not have to worry about meals prices. We advise that you pack some warm clothing as the evenings and nights can get quite cold in the restaurant and bar.
The lodge has beautifully manicured lawns and grounds with fantastic views of the greater Virunga area and the volcanoes on the horizon. These provide for a perfect relaxing venue for the night before or after your gorilla trek.

Mountain gorilla view lodge's location is ideal for mountain gorilla trekkers as it's only about 10 minutes from the park headquarters where the pre-gorilla trekking briefing takes place every morning prior to your transfer to the gorilla trekking trailheads at the base of the mountains. The lodge's location thus provides a convenient base for gorilla trekking overnight stay. On the day of the gorilla trek, you may return at stay at Mountain gorilla view lodge for your further treks which could include golden monkey treks, volcanoes hikes, treks to Dian Fossey's grave or simply drive a comfortable 1.5hrs to Gisenyi on the shores of Lake Kivu for a perfect day of relaxation.
