Gorilla Permits
There is a limited number of Rwanda and Uganda gorilla permits available on each day. In Rwanda the number of gorilla permits available on each day is 80. There is ten gorilla groups available for trekking for each day and the number if limited to 8 gorilla trekkers for each group. In Uganda, there is a slightly higher number of gorilla permits available each day. Trekking in Uganda is divided into sectors, e.g Buhoma, Nkuringo, Ruhija etc. It is imperative to first book your Uganda gorilla permits before your reserve your accommodation in Bwindi, so that your accommodation matches the gorilla group that you would be trekking. This is so to avoid having to drive sometimes 4 hours to your gorilla trekking trailheads.. For example, If you book gorilla permits for the Buhoma sector we recommend that your accommodation is also in Buhoma.
Gorilla permits sell out well in advance in the peak months of June/July/August/ September/ December and January. It is therefore absolutely advisable that you purchase your gorilla permits well in advance of your intended gorilla trekking date. Gorilla permits need to be paid for and secured at the time of your gorilla tour bookings so that the permits can be paid for immediately to avoid disappointments. Delay in payment for the gorilla permits can result in missing out on securing permits for your preferred gorilla trekking date and then having to shuffle things around to suit gorilla permits availability. We request that you contact us with your preferred trekking dates range. We shall check gorilla permits availability for Uganda and Rwanda asap. For clients who are flexible with their gorilla trekking requirements, we recommend that if gorilla permits for Rwanda are fully booked, that you consider gorilla trekking just over the border in Bwindi Uganda. The gorilla trekking experience is pretty much the same in Bwindi as it is in Volcanoes National Park. You just get the best of both worlds, by arriving in Kigali, perhaps golden monkey tracking in Volcanoes National Park Rwanda, before crossing the border and trekking the gorillas in Nkuringo Bwindi Uganda, before returning to Kigali for your outbound flight or onward to Nyungwe Forest for Chimpanzee tracking.
We promptly advise availability of gorilla permits to clients, but can never guarantee that by the time we get your gorilla permits’ payment in Kigali, that gorilla permits will still be available for your preferred dates, as sometimes agents with large gorilla trekking groups snap up a high number of permits for their clients. We sometimes pre-purchase a set number of gorilla permits for each of our scheduled tours, but are unable to provide a similar service to clients who only wish to purchase a gorilla permit from us, as just a standalone service.
Gorilla permits are sold on a first paid fist served basis by the permits issuing offices. Please be sure to get to us the correct payment amount for your gorilla permits so that we are able to purchase them intime for you.
