Cormoran Lodge is a beautiful boutique lodge situated bang on the shores of Lake Kivu in Kibuye Rwanda. Cormoran Lodge exhudes serenity at its best. When we visited the lodge we were simply blown away. From the majestic wooden cabins, to the tranquility of the serene Lake Kivu, to the awesome views and cool breeze as you sip away on a cold freshly made orange juice or bottle of Primus beer, Cormoran Lodge seems like the perfect setting to spend a relaxing holiday.
Whether you are in Kibuye for a vacation or stopping over for a few days enroute from Nyungwe as part of your greater Rwanda chimp safari or heading out to Volcanoes National Park for your gorilla trekking, be sure to at least spend 2 nights here. It is just simply beautiful. No luxury has been spared by the Belgian owner of this lodge. There is so much attention to detail to everything about The Cormoran Lodge. The nights here are such a beauty to behold. Go for a swim in the fresh waters of Lake Kivu or simply go for a boat ride on the Lake. From your lodge cabin or restaurant, feast on endless splendid views of the lake, surrounding islands or the Nyiragongo Volcanoes across the border in Congo. Our Managing Director visited with her niece Thereza a 24yr old Chemical Engineer with a large US multinational in London, UK, but even she contemplated moving here for a few years if she could land a job with one of the companies that is prospecting for commercial gas in Lake Kivu.
Kibuye Rwanda is still shielded from mass tourism, and as such Cormoran Lodge will feel like a private secluded getaway spot. There isn't many hotels of Lodges yet in Kibuye with the exception of Moriah Hills Resort a short distance away. Cormoran Lodge only has 7 cabins and feels intimate and private.

Cormoran Lodge has a Restaurant & Bar that serve snacks, soft and alcoholic beverages. Simply sit and relax in the lounge in the main lodge building and enjoy breathtaking views of the Lake Kivu and panoramic Volcanoes in the horizon. A number of activities can be arranged by Cormoran Lodge including;

simply enjoy a game of Billiard, darts, cards games etc.
Cormoran Lodge is located in Kibuye which is a comfortable 3 hrs drive from Kigali on very beautiful roads. Kibuye is a beautiful town on the shores of Lake Kivu and visitors who have a keen interest in history and culture of Rwanda will find Kibuye worth visiting. Kibuye hosts a few genocide memorial sites, has some boutique cafes and bars. It is also a good stop-over place for visitors travelling to Nyungwe for chimp tracking, colobus monkey tracking or those visiting the source of the Nile, which is actually closer to Kibuye than to Nyungwe Forest National Park.
