Akagera Game Lodge is one of the very few mid-range/Luxury accommodation options within Akagera National Park. The 2nd one is Ruzizi Tented Lodge. Akagera Game Lodge is within the confines of Akagera National Park, making it ideal for overnight stay if you are visiting Akagera Park for game drives and other activities within the park. The lodge is accessible through the southern entrance gate to Akagera National Park and is situated on a pretty rim with splendid views of the calm and beautiful Lake Ihema which is located in the southern sector of Akagera Park.
Akagera National Park is located in North Eastern Rwanda in Rwanda's Eastern province. The park is a whopping 90k hectares in area coverage.. It is a comfortable 2 hours' drive from Kigali making it ideal for day trippers to Akagera. It is strongly advisable to spend at least 2 nights at the lodge to be able to get the best travel value out of your visit to this awesome part of Rwanda with plenty to do including game drives in the park, boat rides on Lake Ihema, camping , fishing expeditions, night game drives and other eco-tourism activities.
Akagera game lodge offers mid-range accommodation options to overnight visitors to Kagera national park. The lodge has a number of facilities including a conference suite, swimming pool, and a tennis court for sports enthusiasts. The Lodge has a bar and restaurant for both meals and refreshments after game drives in the park.
Sport fishing on Lake Shakani can be arranged and one is able to spend a night out amongst the sights and sounds of the bush on night game drives. If you are looking for a safari experience similar to the one in Murchison Falls Uganda or Queen Elizabeth, a boat ride on Lake Ihema would be a perfect opportunity to view herds of hippos and crocodiles as they come out to drink on the shores of the Lake in the afternoons.
Guided game drives in self drive vehicles are catered for. You would go out with one of the resident guides who are trained to spot game, wildlife and birds. Birding tours are very popular for avid birders who will spot huge concentrations of waterfowls, savanna birds species, papyrus gonolek red-faced barbet and the rare much sought after swamp fly catcher.
